South Dakota Deer Hunting

September 1 - end of November
Velvet buck hunts Sept 1 - mid September

The deer hunts are fair chase and the terrain consists of badlands, draws, agricultural fields, sagebrush flats and river bottoms.

Even though you have to send in an application, archery deer licenses are guaranteed with no deadline to apply and cost $286. You can either apply online or send in a paper application. Archery season starts the 1st of September and goes to January 1.

Hunt Schedule: Arrive to camp on Thursdays around 12 noon. Hunt Thursday afternoon, all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, return home Tuesday morning.

Treestands: Ladder stands, wearing safety harnesses required.

Get tags (online only) – Have to get them at least 2 weeks before your trip. SDGFP sends them through the mail.

We require $500 down to reserve your spot by January 1. Remainder is due July 1. First come, first serve on reserving your spot.

  • Transportation to Camp (Transportation from Rapid City airport can be arranged)
  • Voluntary Gratuity to guides 10-15% recommended

FALL APPLICATION DEADLINES: 

First Deadline – Apply online through 8 a.m. CDT on Sept. 9. Applicant may submit only one application per person. Results available online by Sept. 15.

Second Deadline – Apply online through 8 a.m. CDT on Sept. 26. Those who do not already have a license may submit only one application per person. Results available online by Sept. 29.

Third Deadline – Apply online by 8 a.m. CST Oct. 12. Results available online by Oct. 17. Anyone may apply for additional licenses (five maximum for the season). Licenses remaining for this drawing are pooled and made available to both the resident and nonresident drawings. Leftover Licenses – After the third deadline drawings, licenses remaining will be issued first-come, first-served. Licenses are available to individuals whether or not they already have a license. An individual may have an unlimited number of fall turkey licenses for any unit or combination of units.
